- A WONDERFUL LIE [ 1:34 - 2:34 ]
- Senior year University group project
- Originally created and presented in Stereoscopic 3D using both a custom camera rig and the new Maya 2009 built in rig which was available to half-way through the project
- Vicon Motion Capture data was recorded and applied to the female character
- Hand animation was used for the Wolf
- Full body nCloth clothing was created and simulated
- Shave & Haircut was used for the hair / fur
- Post processing compositing techniques included masking a large fluid cube and using Vector motion layers for applying a cheap blur to the main character
- My credit includes: Character modeling / texturing / rigging, nCloth & hair simulation, cleaning up motion capture data and applying it to the character, adding secondary animation to the female character, animating the wolf, setting up the stereoscopic camera and equipment, lighting, creating the initial compositing guidelines / workflow, and project management.
- NETWORK TECHNOLOGY [ 2:34 - 2:50 ]

- CONSTRUCTION LINES [ 3:07 - 3:44 ]
- Animated short I created in three weeks while a student at Carleton
- The main focus was to tell a story in a unique visual appearance
- Used a collection of stop motion textures from sketching on paper with charcoal as well as piles of the remaining charcoal for deep shadows, while adding jitter functions to add to the randomization
- Experimented with using Toon shading and outlines, run through a Photoshop filter, to produce and broken line effect. Increased thickness and darker value to show the main character's mood.
- Watch the volume on the speakers if you watch this... I shouldn't have done the audio myself!
- Maya, Photoshop, Stop-motion photography, After Effects and Audition
DEMO REEL 2008 : BREAKDOWN
- Silly Lizard
I created this as a personal project in order to learn character modeling, rigging and animation techniques. The character is loosely based of the tutorials in the book "Learning Maya 7 : Modeling and Animation Handbook". [Maya, ZBrush]
- F1 Race Car
This is the end result of my Term Project for an introduction to 3D Modeling course. I decided to go ahead and rig it and create some interesting animations as well as try out the mental ray car shader. [Maya, Photoshop]
- Old Man
Created as part of a group project where we had to learn how to use a 6-camera Vicon Motion Capture system and then produce an instructional website. I was responsible for creating a character, rigging it to accept the motion data within MotionBuilder and produce a short animation as an example. [Maya, Photoshop]
- 2D Cartoon
We had to design and create the specifications and marketing plans for a ficticious product. As a group, we decided on a electronic textbook system and I decided to create an animation that highlights the marketable aspects of the system to be shown at our end-term presentation. [After Effects, Photoshop]
- Tunnel
This was my first animated short that I created many years ago. It was a source of inspiration when I finally got back into producing 3D graphics. [3DStudio Max]
- Ogre & Spear
This was an image created for a Stereoscopic 3D contest on CGArena.com. I was awarded first place for the image. [Maya, ZBrush, Photoshop, Shave & Haircut]
- OpenGL GUI
This was a school project in which we had to create a game engine and working game using C++ and OpenGL libraries.
- Comedy Central
This was one of my late-night fun projects I created for The Colbert Report Green Screen challenge. The source footage was of Senator McCain in front of a green backdrop, so I decided to make it out as if he were the Emperor from Star Wars. I was pretty happy to see it on TV, love that show. [After Effects]
